Who will this retreat suit and do I need to know ‘how to draw’?
This retreat is suitable for all levels of experience in terms of drawing, painting, and yoga.
Whilst you may be hesitant coming to create art for the first time, feel assured that Cate will lead you fearlessly into a safe space where drawing is effortlessly fun and discovering colour opens a vista of playful possibilities which she'll guide you ithrough to satisfying outcomes and a thorough grounding in techniques to keep you painting at home.
For those of you who have done lots of drawing or painting, this is precious time to dive deeply into creating gorgeous imagery with an artist renowned for her enchanting imagination and attention to detail and design.
What You’ll Do
Gather and create imagery from our Balinese environment
Delve into the resources that Cate provides to find shapes and objects which will form another level of visual information
Following Cate’s lead, find enchanting ways to link up these elements into a kind of visual storytelling.
Bring these elements to life using strong design and colour principles, and a toolbox of techniques.
You will complete two mid-size canvases on this retreat, as well as have a sketchbook of drawings to keep your imagination firing when you get home.
The techniques are solid, the approach is playful, the results are stunning!
More about this retreat
Cate is a consummate storyteller with paint. She Illustrates books, paints for exhibitions, and is a constant maker of things. Just being around Cate is food for the imagination, and you’ll find her energy utterly infectious.
You will love the progress that you make as you share a fun and laughter-filled days by the seaside where everything is provided – all you need to do is bring your intention.
A foundational element of Creative Living Retreats, and something which really makes them unique, is the importance we place on yoga and meditation throughout the week.
Experience the peacefulness of not having to ‘be’ anything to ‘anyone’ this week and open yourself to being cared for.
During This Week :
You’ll be inspired by the beautiful tropical environment, rich with nature, with plenty of places to take timeout and swim, in the sea or the pool, whilst enjoying the hospitality of Villa Nilaya ‘s wonderful staff who’ll prepare delicious lunches for you each day. There’s even a Balinese massage, and an option to go boating. The painting environment is comfortable.
You’ll leave with not only a toolkit of techniques that will inspire and inform your painting, but you’ll definitely be taking 2 completed artworks ready to hang at home. And of course, a grateful body limbered up from a week of gentle hatha yoga, a mind relaxed by the peace and serenity of being able to focus on creativity, freed from the responsibilities of daily life, with skills for yoga and mindful activities to take back into your daily life.
